Studio Heech is an architectural design practice based in Seoul, working across the field of architecture, industrial design, furniture and interactive performance installation with a focus on Public and cultural projects. Heech's work addresses unchanged fundamentals in architecture and cities with technology in our times. The studio won KIA award 2020(The building of the year) by Korean Institute of Architects and was shortlisted for Emerging Architects by Architectural Review 2023. Heechan has been selected as the artist for the Korean Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.
We approach architecture as a time-based craft, shaped by climate, material resistance, and the way spaces are inhabited and remembered. Rather than treating design as a process of representation, we design through making: building prototypes, devices, and full-scale details to test how architecture performs before it becomes a building.
Our work often begins with what already exists. Through renovation and adaptive reuse, we negotiate between preservation and intervention, identifying what must remain, what can transform, and how new construction can coexist with inherited structures. We consider detail as a form of decision-making: ethical, spatial, and temporal.
Our projects are also grounded in an ongoing attempt to connect traditional craftsmanship with the technologies of our time, developed through close collaboration with artisans, engineers, artists, designers, and urban researchers. We believe architecture directly shapes both everyday life and the environment; therefore, sustainability is embedded from the earliest stages of each project, guiding decisions on what to preserve, what to build, and what can endure.
Alongside built projects, we develop experimental instruments that operate as architectural testbeds. These crafted machines allow us to sense and translate weather, perception, and ritual into spatial experience, expanding architectural practice beyond the limits of a single building type.
Studio Heech is aware of that the importance of our design, changing our lives and environment for the better. Every single building projects Heech designs has a sustainability integrated into it from the very beginning of the projects to the construction stages.
